Saints Gone Wild: Michael the Archangel – Team Leader of the Holy Hitter Squad

If you were to do a quick pocket-check of most law enforcement officers, military personnel, or first responders, chances are you'd find something unique: a challenge coin. And stamped on that coin, more often than not, is the unmistakable image of Michael the Archangel.
Why Michael? Because he’s not just any angel—he’s the angel. Heaven’s warrior. The original operator. Heaven’s five-star general and TL for the Holy Hitters. The back-to-back apocalypse champion who has whipped Lucifer’s ass more times than the U.S. has taken out ISIS.
As the story goes—agreed upon across most Christian traditions—there was a bit of a dust-up in heaven when Jesus was introduced. Lucifer, as prideful as he is, wasn’t about to bow to a human, and he sure wasn’t going to accept some girl from Nazareth as his queen. That’s when things went sideways. A third of the angels decided to follow the rabble-rouser, Lucifer, and launched a celestial coup d'état. Enter Michael.
Out of the shadows comes the super-angel—imagine the face of Tom Selleck, the karate skills of Chuck Norris, and the tactical mind of John Wayne in The Green Berets. His answer to Lucifer’s rebellion? A divine “Nah.” The war broke out, swords were drawn, and Michael dominated.
From the Old Testament through the Book of Revelation, Michael keeps showing up as the tip of Heaven’s spear— the angel with the most confirmed wins in the history of spiritual warfare. It’s no wonder cops, soldiers, medics, and all kinds of public servants keep him close. For those who walk into chaos, Michael represents courage, loyalty, and righteous strength. When the pucker factor hits “9”, they know someone has their six.
I’ll bet Michael’s accolades read like a heavenly file from the Office of Personnel Management. I like to imagine it goes something like this:
Michael’s Resume
Protector of the Church
Commander of the Heavenly Hosts
Mary’s Point Man
Five-Star General to Jesus Christ
Cross-Designated as a Medical Specialist
CrossFit Champion
BJJ Red Belt
Super handsome with 1990s Navy SEAL hair
References: Jesus.
Saint Michael isn't just a figure on a coin. He's a presence in the chaos. A battle-tested veteran of the first war ever waged. So, the next time you see that challenge coin, remember—Michael the Archangel has already stood toe-to-toe with hell itself. And he’s still in the fight, right beside you.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
